  Types of Thread Inserts Thread inserts provide permanent, high-quality, wear-resistant internal threads  mainly designed to get installed in drilled holes or molded forms in a simple and quick way. In-fact there are many advantages of using  thread inserts . Depending on the application, Thread insert comes in various types and varieties. Captive Nut:  It comes into two basic styles, cage nut or clip-on nut. It is generally used to attach screws to sheet metal-parts too thin to be threaded. They can be attached, removed and reused with simple hand tools.   Externally Threaded Inserts:   They have threads in the inside and outside of the insert. The insert is threaded into a pre-tapped hole or few inserts tap their own threads in a drilled or molded hole. Those inserts that are lock-via-friction or self-tapped are most commonly known by the trademarked names Tap-lock or Speedserts.   Helical Inserts:   It is an insert made of coiled wire. These inserts are used to offer stronger threa
